The Physical Initiative is a complete health care package designed specifically for seafarers working in the shipping industry. There are a number of cost-effective schemes designed to improve the health awareness and general welfare of seafarers, all contributing to reduce company costs and improve crew efficiency and wellbeing. Since the concept of the Physical Initiative was launched, our expert consultants have been assessing, testing and measuring the health and fitness levels of thousands of seafarers.
With our extensive knowledge of how ship operations can differ around the world we assemble tailor-made schemes which are designed to monitor crew fitness levels and encourage healthy lifestyles. We have recorded significant improvement in the general health of seafarers that have followed our programmes, for example; in a 3 year study of crews with Irish Sea Ferries the percentage of overweight personnel was reduced by 30% and the percentage of smokers was reduced by 35%. We achieve such excellent results by encouraging seafarers to:
- Adopt a lifestyle that includes regular physical activity
- Adopt a diet to meet individual nutritional and lifestyle requirements.
